Market activity during the month of october

- In October trading in equities on the Spanish market through
SIBE reached € 58.64 bn, 30% up on the same month last year.
- Trading volumes up to October on the Latibex market also hit
a record high, with 302 million euros.
- On October, 28, daily trading volume on the warrants market
was the highest ever since its creation. The volume of premiums
traded reached € 15.2 million on that day.
- Accumulated trading volume in futures on the Ibex 35 index
from January exceeded that posted all through 2003, with 3.61
million contracts traded, a 23 % on the year.
- Accumulated corporate Debt trading on AIAF was up by 49%
on the same period last year.
EQUITIES
In October trading in equities on the Spanish market through SIBE reached € 58.64 bn, up 35% on the previous month and up 30% on the same period last year.
In the first 10 months of 2004 the value of share trading was € 530.01 bn, up 30% on the same period last year and 7.22% up on the year, thus breaking the annual record trading set last year.
Between January and October trading on Latibex reached € 302 million, a 30% increase over the same month in 2003. This figure exceeds by 6.60% the volume posted all through 2003, thus breaking the annual record high set last year.
The return on the IBEX 35 index in October was 4.85 %. The return on the IBEX 35 from January was 8.80%, that on the IBEX 35 with dividends was 11.71% and that on the FTSE Latibex Top index was 17.18%.
WARRANTS AND CERTIFICATES
Trading volumes in October on the warrants and certificates market came in at € 160 million, which represents a 23% increase over the previous month in 2003 and a daily average volume of over 7 million euros.
On October, 28 daily trading volume on the warrants market was the highest ever since its creation. The volume of premiums traded reached € 15.2 million on that day.
Accumulated trading volume in 2004 exceeded € 1.54 bn million euros, 4.35% up on the same period in 2003.
DERIVATIVES
Futures and options traded through MEFF in October 2004 came in at 1.59 million contracts, 9% up on the same month last year.
Accumulated trading volume in futures on the Ibex 35 index from January exceeded that posted all through 2003, with 3.61 million contracts traded, a 23 % increase compared to the same period last year. Trading in Mini Futures up to October was 1.01 million contracts , up 8.4% on the same period last year.
CORPORATE DEBT
Corporate Debt trading on AIAF in October reached € 51.84 bn, a 37 % increase compared to the same period last year. Accumulated trading volumes posted in the first ten months of the year was € 453.37 bn, 49% up on the same period last year.
The increase posted in new issues up to October was similar to that in trading volume, by 50%, reaching € 260.21 bn. New issues in October amounted to € 24.93 bn. The outstanding balance at the end of the month was € 278.82 bn.
SENAF
The trading volume on SENAF, the Spanish Public-Debt trading platform, in October was € 31.83 bn, which represents 82.2% of the total trading volume posted on all Spanish electronic debt trading platforms.
